SEO Copywriting Built to Produce Quote Requests, Not Word Count
Most SEO content is sold by the word and written by someone who has never opened your Search Console. Here, James Price does the query research, writes the page, and reads what it produced afterwards. Pairs with technical SEO and local SEO.
Why Most SEO Content Never Produces a Single Phone Call
Six failures, and they are rarely the ones the writer was hired to fix. Start with an SEO audit if you want to know which ones you have, or see the full SEO services.
Ranking for the Wrong Half of the List
“How does AC refrigerant work” brings readers. “Emergency AC repair Jacksonville” brings buyers. We write the buyer pages first and only get to the reader pages once those are covered.
Written to Hit a Word Count
Two thousand words that never state what you charge, where you go, or what happens after the form is sent is padding. A comparison shopper wants those three answers and then leaves.
No Offer Underneath It
Copy cannot rescue a weak offer. We settle what you are actually offering, and why it beats the two other tabs open next to yours, before a word gets written.
Nothing Standing Behind the Claims
Google discounts expertise it cannot attribute to a person. Pages get a named author, a real bio and a linked author page — the same standard we hold this site to.
Published Once, Then Forgotten
Rankings drift. We re-read the pages that slipped against whatever is on page one now and rewrite them, rather than publishing another post on top.
Untracked, So Unjudgeable
If a page cannot be tied to a form fill or a phone call, nobody can say whether it worked. Conversion tracking goes in before the copy does.
What We Write
Six kinds of page. Each one is written to a specific query and a specific next step, and the on-page work is done for you rather than handed back as a list of instructions.
Service & Landing Pages
One page per service, written for someone who is comparing you against two others right now.
- Offer, proof and next step above the fold
- Objections answered on the page, not in a call
- Title, H1 and meta written to the query
Bottom-of-Funnel Articles
Cost, comparison and “best in [city]” pieces — the articles people read with a credit card nearby.
- Built from your job history, not a SERP summary
- Real price ranges where you will publish them
- Internal links into the pages that take the enquiry
Product & Category Copy
E-commerce copy written from the catalog, for buyers who are comparing specifications across four tabs.
- Specs a buyer can actually compare
- Category pages that rank, not just filter
- Fit, compatibility and returns answered inline
Service-Area Pages
One page per town you can genuinely serve. If you cannot get there this week, we will not write the page.
- Actual jobs, neighbourhoods and permit quirks
- No spun duplicates with the city name swapped
- Wired to your Google Business Profile
Rewrites of Pages That Slipped
Usually the fastest win on the site. A page that once ranked is worth more than a new page with no history.
- Search Console query-loss report first
- Rewrite in place, keeping the URL and its links
- Merge or retire pages competing with each other
The Plan Behind It
A ranked list of what to write, in what order, and what to leave alone. Yours to keep either way.
- Priority by revenue potential, not search volume
- A kill list of pages to merge or delete
- What gets published next quarter, and why
How a Page Actually Gets Written
Five steps, and you receive something at the end of each one.
Offer and Tracking Before Anything Is Written
We agree what you are selling, at what price, to whom — and confirm that form fills and calls are actually being recorded. A better page on a broken offer just loses money faster.
Query Research, Not Keyword Volume
We pull your existing Search Console queries, sort them by whether the searcher wants to buy, compare or learn, and read the pages currently beating you.
Written by the Person Who Did the Research
James Price writes it. No junior takes over the file once you have signed, and nothing goes out to a content mill. Your jobs, your objections and your pricing go on the page.
On-Page Work Done, Not Handed Over
The parts most writers leave in a spreadsheet for someone else get implemented as part of the job.
Measured Against the Number From Step One
Position and clicks are the leading indicator; enquiries are the result. Pages that miss go into the rewrite queue rather than being quietly forgotten.
Who Actually Writes It
A page selling you on expertise, authority and trust should carry some. Here is ours, with a name on it.
James Price, Founder & Lead Designer
8+ years in conversion optimization and web design, previously with Fortune 500 companies and startups, and hundreds of businesses helped since. Certifications: CXL Institute — Conversion Optimization · Google Ads Certified · Meta Ads Certified. He wrote this page too — read the author page and judge the writing before you spend a minute on a call.
We Hold This Site to the Same Standard
Every article on our blog carries a byline, a photo, a credentials card and a linked author page, because Google discounts a claim of expertise that only exists in the structured data. If an agency cannot be bothered to sign its own writing, ask what it plans to put on yours.
SEO and Copywriting in One Head
Most shops hand your copy to a writer who has never read a crawl report, or to an SEO who has never written a sentence meant to sell. Here both jobs sit with one person, certified by CXL Institute in conversion optimization, so the query strategy and the argument on the page get built together rather than stapled together afterwards.
No One in the Middle
The person who diagnoses the problem is the person who fixes it. No account manager relaying your notes, no handover meeting, no discovering after you sign that the people on the sales call are not the people doing the work.
One Result, With a Name Attached
Agency pages are full of round percentages with no client behind them. This is the one we can point at, in the client’s own words.
“Grindstone Design has been doing SEO for my company for the past 7 months and has made our rankings in Google shoot up. We've increased the amount of people coming to our website by over 500% from when we started. Can't recommend enough!”
Anton Montgomery — 7-month SEO engagement, Google review
Rated 5.0 across 47 Google reviews. The rest of the work is on the portfolio, with the client names attached.
The Stack, and What We Deliberately Do Not Use
A long list of subscriptions is not a credential. Three tools do the work.
What We Run
Discovery, ground truth, and attribution. Each one answers a question the other two cannot.
What We Do Not
Three things that are common in this industry and that we think make content worse.
What It Costs
Copywriting is delivered inside an SEO retainer, and those start at $1,000/month — the same figure published on our services page, not a different one written for this page. A standalone set of pages is quoted per project after we have read what you already have, because the honest number depends on how much of it is worth keeping. The guarantee behind our builds is unchanged: If your new website doesn't outperform your current one, we work for free until it does.
What Moves the Number
How Many Pages
- Pages written from scratch
- Pages rewritten in place instead
- Towns you can genuinely serve
- Whether the offer is settled yet
How Much Research
- Trades we have already written for
- Work that needs your job history first
- How many competitors are worth reading
- Whether Search Console history exists
How Much We Implement
- On-page work done or handed over
- Schema and internal linking
- Whether tracking already works
- One pass, or ongoing rewrites
One-Off Page Copy
A defined set of pages — a service section, a launch, a stack of service-area pages. Quoted per project after we have seen them.
- Fixed scope, agreed before we start
- Named page list, not a word allowance
- On-page implementation included
Inside the SEO Retainer — From $1,000/month
Copywriting alongside technical and local SEO, with the rewrite queue running continuously. Technical fixes move in weeks; the keywords that actually produce quote requests take three to six months.
- New pages and rewrites, prioritised monthly
- Reporting against the number you picked
- Same person every month
SEO Copywriting FAQs
The questions we actually get asked on the first call.
Why pay for this when a model can write a page in ten seconds?
It can, and for a first draft you probably should. What it cannot do is read the last twelve reviews you received, know that most of your quotes are lost to one specific competitor on price, or decide which of your services is actually worth ranking for. Everyone bidding against you has the same tool. What separates the pages is the research underneath and the judgement about what to leave out.
How long before this shows up in search?
Three to six months on the keywords that produce quote requests, and competitive markets run longer — the same timeline published on our SEO page, not a shorter one written to close you. Impressions and average position move first in Search Console, then click-through, then enquiries. The one client engagement we quote publicly ran seven months. Anyone promising page one inside a month is selling you something other than SEO.
Who actually writes the copy?
James Price does. Grindstone Design is principal-led: the person who diagnoses the problem is the person who writes the page. There is no account manager relaying your notes, no junior handed the file after you sign, and nothing goes out to a content mill under our name.
Do you write for my industry?
We write for local service businesses across Florida and Georgia — contractors, home services, restaurants, medical and legal practices. If you are in a field where we would be guessing, we will say so rather than researching our way into sounding plausible. Pages that sound plausible but read as wrong to a specialist do more damage than no page.
What do I actually receive?
A one-page brief after discovery, a ranked list of pages to write or rewrite, drafts you read before anything is published, and the on-page work done for you — title tag, headings, internal links, schema markup and image alt text. The page list and the brief are yours to keep whether or not you continue.
How do you measure whether it worked?
Against the single number agreed in step one, which for most clients is qualified quote requests. We report Search Console position and click-through alongside form fills and calls attributed to the page. Traffic by itself is not a result — a page can double its visitors and produce nothing.
Want Your Pages Read Properly?
Send us the site. We will tell you which pages we would write or rewrite first, and which ones we would delete.
